This is what the Lord says:
“Stop at the crossroads and look around.
Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it.
Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls.
But you reply, ‘No, that’s not the road we want!’"

Life is full of daily decisions and crossroads and this word from Jeremiah calls us to stop and think about the consequences of our choices. If we’ll look for the godly way to do things and walk in it, then there’s this great promise of finding rest for our souls. There is a great restlessness in our culture today because there are so many who don’t realize the magnitude of every small choice in honoring the Lord.
Too quickly, people go their own way even when encouraged to go God’s way. If we’ll just trust that the Almighty knows what’s best for us, then we’d more often enter that rest that God’s promising.

I have experienced too often that restlessness that comes from going my own way. This is a fresh word from God that again is an invitation to enter in to the true rest for the soul that is only available in obeying God and doing what Jesus is prompting me to do. There’s a mindset that is good to have in wanting to please the heart of God in all we do. This doesn’t mean I’m a robot that just responds to moment by moment commands. Jesus gives us great latitude to carry out His will with our own gifts and creativity. But I need to be careful at each crossroad decision to make sure that I am doing the God honoring thing with my life.
There’s such a peace and rest to life when I know I’ve obeyed the Lord and pleased Him with my best efforts. My heart wants to enter that true rest and I am inspired to draw close to the heart of God so that I have His passion for what’s really important. |

Thank You, Father God for this wonderful invitation of rest for my soul as I go your way. Help me to recognize those moments when I’m at a crossroad and need to make the wise and godly decision. Lord Jesus, come and fill me with your Spirit so that I may discern God’s best through this day. Help me to be sensitive to the needs of those around me and help me to honor You by loving the people you’re bringing into my life.
