“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Jesus is describing for this Samaritan woman that worshiping God means that you must be willing to bring your whole life to God and allow Him to change you from the inside out. To worship Him in Spirit and in Truth means that I must come to Jesus first and receive Him as my personal Lord and Savior. Only then will I be able to worship Him in Spirit because when I become a Christian my spirit is made alive and I can now communicate with the living God.
To worship Him in truth means that I must be willing to bring my whole life to Him and be honest with Him about my sin and what needs to change in my life. If I worship Him and declare to Him that He is the one I live for, then I must demonstrate that in my life by humbling myself and living for Him wholeheartedly. That includes responding to the impressions of the Holy Spirit when He convinces me of sin in my life that needs to be dealt with. That’s why Jesus says to the woman, go call your husband. He’s saying, “If you want this living water that I can give you, you must be willing to take responsibility for the sin in your life that threatens to diminish your God-given blessing and deal with it and walk in freedom and obedience.” |

As a worship leader, I understand well the importance of living a life of integrity and honesty before God, so that my leadership is unhindered by sin, rebellion or dishonesty. I must understand that becoming a person of His likeness is a process as I keep coming to Him and allowing Him to change me from the inside out.
I am motivated to live honestly before God in everything so that the blessing of His presence and anointing will be strong and effective in my life. I need to respond to Him when he calls me to prayer, and I need to serve the people in my life He wants me to serve. I need to be rich in prayer and in the study of His Word so that I may be properly equipped and in tune with His Spirit for all the challenges and ministry opportunitites He's giving me. |
