Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.

God is faithful to teach us how to do His will if we’ll apply ourselves to listening to His voice and humbling ourselves to depend on His Spirit for wisdom and direction. Humankind’s biggest problem is the sinful nature that tends to live selfishly and independently of God’s will.

Freedom is not found in always doing what you want to do. Freedom is found in living dependently on the Holy Spirit. This verse gives the wonderful promise that God’s Spirit will lead me on level ground, not dangerous and shaky ground. When left to our own desires and devices, we end up making poor choices and subsequently find ourselves on shaky ground. That’s why it’s so important to be led by the Spirit of God. He knows what’s best for us and going His way will always lead us to our best possible life.

I am reminded of how important it is to have a teachable spirit every day. I need God’s wisdom each day and this is a great promise to believe that His Spirit will lead me, if I’ll be careful to listen and obey. I need His wisdom for how to lead my family, how to lead His church, what to teach on from week to week and in building leadership. I need His wisdom in reaching out to my friends and loving them with God’s love.

As I am rich in reading and studying God’s word, I am more prepared to hear His voice with clarity and humility. Life is so ‘daily,’ and yet there is an adventure of what the God of heaven will say to me today through His Word. And it’s usually very helpful for each day when I apply myself to read His Word and listen for God’s voice.

Thank You, Heavenly Father for your faithfulness to lead me to do what you’re calling me to do. Lord Jesus, help me to do your will today. Fill me with your Spirit and help me to stay dependent on You so that I can be a blessing to the people in my life. My heart is to live my life dependent on your Spirit for all things. Help me to be mindful of your presence through each day and your promise to lead me in the way I should go.
