For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

The prophet Isaiah speaks of the coming Messiah in Jesus Christ and he describes Him with these names that reveal who He really is. Jesus is the Wonderful Counselor who is always there to give us His wisdom and insight for every challenge and problem we face. He is the Mighty God in being able to do all things well – nothing is impossible with God. He is the Everlasting Father, a reference to the Trinity that shows that there is but one God expressed and revealed in three distinct personalities with perfect relationship in this Godhead. And then He is the Prince of Peace. This means so many things, but first and foremost is that when we are reconciled with Christ and accept His work on the cross and forgiveness for our sin, we have peace with God and peace in our hearts.
Jesus is the Prince of Peace that can calm every storm in life and give us a supernatural peace that transcends circumstances. It’s the kind of peace that is quickened to our heart that lets us know that God is in control and that ultimately, everything is going to work out for our good.

I am so touched by the Lord’s faithfulness to counsel me through His Word, through other believers, fellow pastors and in the impressions of my heart as His Holy Spirit speaks to me. I am so grateful that His counsel is always available to me if I’ll just reach out to Him, quiet my heart, and listen to His wisdom. I am also so grateful for His peace that passes all understanding. He gives me His grace and peace even in those tough times when I am not at my best and still being refined by His workings in my life.
