Gather with God’s Family

Pastor Dan Johnson

CRIPTURE

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Hebrews 10:24-25

BSERVATION

If we’re serious about living for Jesus, we will make a commitment to be in consistent fellowship with believers in the context of a church family. The Apostle Paul said some strong things about the benefits of the Body of Christ, His church, which is made up of His people. There are many today who have gotten lazy about going to church and being involved in ministry. So often the enemy of their souls will spur them to be in a critical mode that causes them to leave the church over small and petty issues.

These verses challenge us to spur one another on to love and good deeds. Much of that happens within the life of the church and the context of receiving the teaching of the Word of God. The writer to the Hebrews is clear about not giving up meeting as some have done. The Day approaching is that day when we will all give an account for our actions and our commitment to the Lord and His people.

PPLICATION

As a pastor, I am so mindful of how important it is to be in constant fellowship with other believers. This helps me stay on track and accountable. I need to be encouraged just everyone else does. I am inspired in these days to get with more people one on one to do daily devotions and mentoring. This is part of what this verse is talking about. I want to make the most of my time and have an impact on the people I’m pastoring and the people in the community.

RAYER

Father God, I pray that You would speak to people about the importance of church life and being a part of your family. This area is one of the most unchurched regions of America. I pray that You would pour out your Spirit on your people and move on many people’s hearts to come to church and be a part of your family. Help me as I pastor your people, that I would spur them on to obey the Lord to be a strong witness for You and be a source of encouragement in mentoring relationships. I pray that husbands and wives would get together to do devotions and journal about what you’re saying to them. I pray that many would be mentored in this way as people gather to do devotions each week. I ask that You set hearts on fire and bring to your church a new hunger and appreciation for the transforming power of your Word.
