Satisfaction of the Soul is Found in Him

Pastor Dan Johnson

CRIPTURE

“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.

Isaiah 55:1-2

BSERVATION

God speaks through the prophet Isaiah about the place of true satisfaction of the soul. He exposes the futility of seeking after things in this world that don’t satisfy. The question of why to spend money on that which isn’t real and labor on that which doesn’t satisfy all point to the fact that God designed us with a need to be filled and fed spiritually. He created us with a need to come to Him and be filled with His Word and His Spirit. If we don’t do that, we will spend a lifetime looking to try and fabricate our own peace and joy on things that ultimately disappoint.

It’s like trying to eat cardboard thinking that it’s steak. This chapter gives a strong call to seek the Lord while He may be found and to let His thoughts become our thoughts. The ultimate result will be a powerful picture of joy, fruitfulness, and satisfaction.

PPLICATION

My heart yearns for the things of God which I’m able to receive when I seek the Lord in prayer and in His Word. I want to leave a legacy of joy and fruitfulness to my family and the people I pastor. My heart is to influence as many people as possible about the richness of God’s Word and the joy of seeking the Lord Jesus each day in prayer. He has grand plans for those who will seek to do His will and walk in His ways.

I set my heart to cultivate a culture of discipleship and to inspire a generation of people to feast on the richness of God’s Word and God’s Presence. As we all grow in Him and allow His thoughts to become our thoughts and His ways to become our ways, there will be a growing Presence of the Lord Jesus that will be irresistible to a dark culture who desperately need to be saved from their sin.
