The Benefits of Doing what is Right

Pastor Dan Johnson

CRIPTURE

Do you think it is right for you to claim, ‘I am righteous before God’? Yet you also ask, ‘What’s the use of living a righteous life? How will it benefit me?’

But it is wrong to say God doesn’t listen, to say the Almighty isn’t concerned. And it is even more false to say he doesn’t see what is going on. He will bring about justice if you will only wait. 15 But do you cry out against him because he does not respond in anger?

Job 28: 12-13, 23, 28

BSERVATION

Elihu, is reminding Job of God’s faithfulness to His Word as he states that God will bring about justice if he will wait on God and trust in Him patiently.

There are times when we may choose to do what’s right over a long period of time, and yet it may appear as if God doesn’t notice and is not moving on our behalf. It is important to remember that there is a law of the harvest that suggests that sometimes we reap the benefits of our labor and obedience in a different season than when we sow. In our hurry up, instant gratification culture, the call to faithful and enduring obedience in the face of adversity and suffering is a indeed a high calling and sometimes a daunting challenge. But we must remember that God is faithful and He will not forget your acts of kindness and your enduring obedience.

PPLICATION

The lesson of the law of the harvest is a principle that I have learned and experienced in many ways over 30 years of ministry. Today is a new day and I am inspired once again to make the most of my time this day and every day. Regardless of whether I see immediate fruit to my labors or not, it is always important to do the right thing in honoring the Lord and obeying His voice. The benefits of doing the right thing include having one's life in order in the area of family, healthy relationships, healthy finances and a heavenly perspective on life that always puts spiritual matters first above earthly matters.

Listening to Him through His Word is a life long challenge that is so rewarding when I realize that He is faithful to speak to me and guide in the way that I should go. Obedience isn’t always easy, but it is always the right thing to do and it will have important ramifications in this life and in the light of eternity.

RAYER

Thank you, Lord for helping me to do the right thing each day. I set my heart to live for You today and to remember that You see everything, You know all things and You will be faithful to reward my efforts as I walk in your Spirit. Fill me with your Holy Spirit this day and help me to stay in step with Your Spirit. I trust You to speak to me today and to help me to be a blessing to the people in my life.
