The Secret to Wisdom

Pastor Dan Johnson

CRIPTURE

"But where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding dwell?

Man does not comprehend its worth; it cannot be found in the land of the living.

God understands the way to it and he alone knows where it dwells,

And he said to man, 'The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom,
and to shun evil is understanding.' "

Job 28: 12-13, 23, 28

BSERVATION

In Job’s dialogue with his friends, he explains that God’s wisdom is so much higher than man’s. His wisdom is far greater and not easily discerned. He concludes that God alone understands the way to wisdom, but that God has made a way for us to know His wisdom. He concludes that the way to wisdom is to fear the Lord and shun evil.

The way to wisdom is found by drawing near to the heart of God and allowing Him to refine and purify our hearts. The fear of the Lord is a very positive force that moves us to align ourselves with almighty God rather than straying further from Him through sin. There is no place of neutrality with God. You are either moving closer to Him each day, or you are moving further away from Him. The great reward in walking in the fear of God is that there is an ever widening revelation of His wisdom that is imparted to you as you walk with Him. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. He has the wisdom of the ages to impart to you for your deepest and most important needs and questions.

PPLICATION

These words on wisdom inspire me to draw ever closer to my Lord each day. I know there is the promise of ever increasing revelation of His will and guidance for my life when I choose to follow Him and obey Him closely. Full disclosure of His wisdom is only made available to them who walk humbly before Him in obedience and sensitivity to His voice.

As I pray these days for a young man whose life hangs in the balance through an accident, I am touched with the need to believe for the impossible that is only possible through God’s healing power. I am also touched with the need to minister to his family the loving grace and mercy of our Lord. It is in moments of great crisis that we realize our great need for God and our great need for His wisdom.

RAYER

Lord Jesus, come fill me with your Holy Spirit this day. Help me to walk in a healthy fear of the Lord that moves me ever closer to You. I set my heart to obey You today and to honor You with my heart, my prayers, and my life. I pray for this young man that you would heal Him completely and bring life to him. I pray for his family that You would give them great grace and strength today as they reach out for your help.
