God’s Word is Sweet to Those who Hear

Pastor Dan Johnson

CRIPTURE

So I went to the angel and told him to give me the small scroll. “Yes, take it and eat it,” he said. “It will be sweet as honey in your mouth, but it will turn sour in your stomach!” So I took the small scroll from the hand of the angel, and I ate it! It was sweet in my mouth, but when I swallowed it, it turned sour in my stomach.

Then I was told, “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, languages, and kings.”

Revelation 10: 9-11 (NLT)

BSERVATION

The Word of the Lord is sweet to those who believe in God and walk with Him. There is great encouragement and affirmation of what we believe and a sense of destiny for who we are called to be and what we are called to do.

However, the sour aspect of God’s word has to do with the call for us to proclaim that salvation is found in a relationship with Jesus. But for those who reject this Word, there is pending judgment and a day coming where they will give an account for what they did with the truth that was offered them.

PPLICATION

I love the Word of God, and even on my day off, I try to stay diligent in reading His word and journaling. The sweetness of His Word keeps me on track and encourages me to live for eternal values. I love to teach the Word of God, but I must not shrink from the saying the challenging and confrontational things that need to be said in the course of teaching and preaching His Word.

I want to be able to say with the Apostle Paul in Romans 1, I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation. This is what God uses to save those who are seeking Him. I need to be bold in my witness and fearless in sharing with everyone the good news of Jesus Christ, even if it makes people uncomfortable.

RAYER

Father God, help me to be bold and fearless in proclaiming your Word. Lord Jesus, quicken to my mind what you would have me say as I stand before your people to teach your Word. Fill me with your Holy Spirit so that I can speak with your grace and anointing. I repent for the times I have gone my own way and not obeyed you fully. Help me to remember that as I walk in your Spirit, there will be an anointing and power to my words that will go beyond my own ability. Thank You for changing lives by the power of your Spirit and the power of your Word.
